On April 18, 1969 an underground newspaper called the Berkeley Barb called on Berkeley residents to bring gardening tools to a 2.8 acre chunk of vacant land owned by the University of California. The following Sunday hundreds of people showed up to built People's Park as a symbol of community. This Sunday (April 22, 2007) Berkeley residents will celebrate the park's 38 year anniversary with music and other activities. If you can't make it to the event at least take a few minutes to read about People's Park's history on wikipedia.
